If you are considering installing solar panels for your business, the first question is always the same: how much will I need to invest? The answer depends on several factors, but in this guide we explain everything clearly so you can make an informed decision.
What determines the cost of a commercial solar system?
The price of a photovoltaic system for businesses is not fixed, since every installation is designed around each company's electricity consumption. The main factors that determine the cost are:
1. Your current electricity consumption
The starting point is always your bill from CFE (Mexico's federal electricity utility). A solar system is sized to cover between 80% and 100% of your monthly consumption. The higher your electricity spending, the larger the system you need — and therefore the investment.
2. System size (installed kW)
Commercial systems are measured in kilowatts-peak (kWp). As a general reference:
- Small systems (20–50 kWp): for retail businesses, offices, and small industrial facilities with bimonthly bills of $15,000 to $40,000 MXN.
- Medium systems (50–200 kWp): for mid-sized companies with consumption of $40,000 to $150,000 MXN per bimonthly period.
- Large systems (200 kWp and up): for large industrial facilities and logistics parks with bimonthly bills above $150,000 MXN.
3. The type of installation
Installing on a flat concrete roof is not the same as mounting on a metal structure or building a solar carport over a parking lot. The mounting type affects both materials and labor time.
4. The technology you choose
Panels come in different efficiencies and brands. At Sinergic we work with high-efficiency panels that deliver more generation per square meter — especially useful when roof space is limited.
What is the approximate investment range?
As a reference, these are the most common investment ranges for commercial projects in Mexico:
| 20 – 50 kWp | $350,000 – $800,000 |
| 50 – 200 kWp | $800,000 – $3,000,000 |
| 200 kWp and up | $3,000,000+ |
These ranges are indicative. The exact cost depends on the analysis of your consumption and the conditions of your installation.
How long does it take to recover the investment?
The return on investment (ROI) of a commercial solar system in Mexico is typically between 2 and 4 years, depending on your CFE rate and the size of the system. After that period, the energy you generate is practically free for the remaining 20 years of the system's useful life.
Are there options besides paying everything upfront?
Yes. At Sinergic we offer several arrangements so the initial cost is not an obstacle:
- Solar financing: we finance the system and your monthly payments are lower than the savings you generate on your CFE bill. You produce positive cash flow from the very first month.
- PPA (Power Purchase Agreement): we install the panels at your business with no upfront payment for the equipment. You only pay for the energy you consume, at a fixed rate lower than CFE's. When the contract ends, the system is entirely yours.
- Leasing: we lease the system with a purchase option at the end of the contract.
What does a Sinergic installation include?
When you work with us, the project covers everything from start to finish:
- Consumption study and system design tailored to your business.
- Supply and installation of panels, inverters, and mounting structure.
- Complete management of the grid interconnection process with CFE.
- Real-time monitoring system so you can see how much energy you produce.
- 30-year warranty on panels and 5-year warranty on workmanship.
How do I get an exact quote for my business?
The first step is to share your company's last three CFE bills with us. With that information we can precisely calculate the system size you need and give you a detailed proposal at no cost and with no obligation.
